Eleven of the venues are in the United States, anchored by the Final at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey. Major hubs like Miami, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Houston see heavy airline competition and are typically the lowest-cost US entry points. Most are large NFL venues retrofitted for soccer, seating between 60,000 and 82,000 supporters.

Plan the Trip

Trip-Planning Essentials

Visa & Entry
For VWP countries an ESTA is required ($21, applied online at least 72 hours pre-travel). A B1/B2 visa is required for non-waiver passport holders, and turnaround can take weeks. Lodge the application early; processing queues lengthen near the tournament.
Stays of up to 180 days are visa-free for most nationalities. You'll get a tourist permit (FMM) on arrival, or you can complete it online before flying. For trips that mix Mexico and US matches, get entry permits for each country individually.
Visa-exempt travelers need an eTA — $7 CAD, applied via the online form. Travelers whose passports require a full visa should file early. Turnaround is generally fast but can lag around major events. The eTA is bound to the passport you applied with and lasts 5 years.
Currency & Costs
The currency is the US Dollar (USD). Card payments are accepted nearly everywhere. Tips are expected: plan on 18-20% in restaurants and $1-2 per drink at bars. Plan on $15-25 per meal at casual restaurants and $8-15 for fast food. Inside the stadiums, food and drinks are markedly pricier.
Currency: Mexican Peso (MXN). USD is widely taken in tourist areas, but paying in pesos delivers better rates. 10-15% is the customary tip. You'll spend $5-10 per meal locally, making Mexico the cheapest of the host countries. ATMs are widely available.
CAD is the currency. Card payments — contactless included — are accepted everywhere. 15-20% is the standard restaurant tip. Pricing is roughly on par with the US: $15-25 per meal. Be aware that Canadian shelf prices are pre-tax, so the final bill lands 13-15% above the menu price.
Weather (June-July)
Climate varies sharply between host cities. The south is hot and humid: Miami 32°C, Houston 35°C, Dallas 36°C. On the West Coast (LA 25°C, San Francisco 18°C, Seattle 22°C) conditions are milder and drier. The East Coast — New York 29°C, Philadelphia 30°C, Boston 27°C — is warm and humid. Pack sunscreen and a hat — and stay hydrated at outdoor venues.
June marks the start of the rainy season. Mexico City's 2,200m altitude keeps daytime temperatures moderate (around 25°C), with sharp evening cool-downs. Layered clothing and a rain jacket are essential. Guadalajara and Monterrey run hotter at 30-33°C, and more humid. Expect frequent — but short — afternoon thunderstorms.
Peak weather of the calendar year. Toronto's average is roughly 26°C with intermittent humidity. In Vancouver, expect 22°C, daylight stretching to 16 hours, and very little rain. Conditions are pleasant for outdoor events in both cities. Bring light layers for evening kickoff times.
Practical Info
Power: Type A/B plugs, 120V. English is the dominant language. Ride-hailing via Uber and Lyft covers every host city. WiFi is generally free at hotels, cafes, and airports. Grab an eSIM or prepaid SIM on arrival for mobile data. Public-transit coverage is mixed: very good in New York, thin in Dallas and Houston.
Type A/B outlets, 127V (same as US). Spanish is spoken everywhere though plenty of English is spoken in tourist districts and near the venues. Ride-hailing via Uber and DiDi works well across the three host cities. For affordable data and calls, buy a Telcel or AT&T Mexico SIM at the airport.
A/B plugs, 120V — same as US. Toronto: English. Vancouver: English/French. Uber covers both cities. Public transit works well — TTC in Toronto, SkyTrain in Vancouver, both stadium-connected. For visitors, Canadian mobile plans are pricey — an eSIM or prepaid is the better play.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I book World Cup 2026 flights from Paraguay?

Book 5 to 6 months out — December 2025 through February 2026 is the best window from ASU. Paraguayan outbound capacity is limited, so popular dates sell out fast. LATAM and Copa both run Q1 2026 sales via newsletter. Watch Gol (via Brazil) for lower-cost one-stop alternatives through GRU. For knockout rounds (late June to July 19), lock by January — late-booking Paraguayan travelers typically face 2x to 3x peak fares when the cheap economy classes clear through the hub on the connecting leg.

Do Paraguayan citizens need a visa for the USA, Mexico, or Canada?

For the USA, yes — Paraguayan citizens need a B1/B2 tourist visa, requiring an in-person interview at the US Embassy in Asunción. Wait times in Paraguay have been moderate; apply at least 6 months before the tournament. For Mexico, Paraguayans do not need a visa for stays under 180 days. For Canada, a full visitor visa is required. Paraguay does not have ESTA or eTA access for any of the three host countries. Start all paperwork 9 to 12 months out.

What's the cheapest routing from Paraguay to the US host cities?

For Miami, New York, and East Coast venues, LATAM via São Paulo (GRU) is typically cheapest — ASU-GRU is short and LATAM's GRU-USA network is extensive. For Central US and Texas venues, Copa via Panama (PTY) often wins, with good connections to Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta. For West Coast venues (LA, Seattle, San Francisco), LATAM via Lima (LIM) or São Paulo is usually the best choice. Aerolíneas Argentinas via Buenos Aires (EZE) can surface competitive fares for East Coast US routes, especially during Argentina's off-peak seasons.

Can I use LATAM Pass or Copa ConnectionMiles from Paraguay?

Yes — both programs cover Paraguayan departures. LATAM Pass (Oneworld) works on ASU-GRU-USA itineraries through American, British Airways, and LATAM. Copa ConnectionMiles (Star Alliance) works on ASU-PTY-USA through United, Air Canada, and Copa. Paraguayan credit cards from Itaú, Banco Continental, and Banco Familiar partner with both programs. Award space from ASU is tight because capacity is thin, so book the day awards open (353 days prior) for best pick.

What about paying for flights with the Paraguayan guaraní?

The Paraguayan guaraní (PYG) has been one of South America's most stable currencies, with low inflation and modest depreciation versus the USD. Most international flight bookings can be paid in guaraníes via Paraguayan credit cards; the bank's FX markup is typically 3 to 5%. Alternatively, you can pay in USD directly using dollars from a Paraguayan USD account (common at Itaú, Continental, Sudameris). ASU retailers accept both currencies widely. For US spending, load a USD-denominated card before departure to skip conversion fees.

Should I plan a multi-match trip with the one-stop routing?

Yes — since every US flight from Paraguay connects anyway, use the connection hub strategically. A LATAM ASU-GRU-Miami itinerary is easy to extend with a GRU-Mexico City or GRU-Toronto leg on the return. A Copa ASU-PTY-Houston itinerary pairs naturally with PTY-Los Angeles if you want to hit two US host cities. Book a multi-city itinerary from the start; adding legs later is often more expensive than bundling them upfront. Leave at least 3 hours between connections at GRU or PTY.

Do I need travel insurance for the World Cup?

Yes — the Instituto de Previsión Social (IPS) and most Paraguayan private health plans do not cover foreign medical costs. A short-term US travel policy with USD 100,000 medical coverage costs PYG 300,000 to PYG 700,000 for a two-week trip via Assist Card or Universal Assistance. Confirm the policy covers football and stadium events, and that it covers transit countries (Brazil, Panama, Argentina) where you'll have layovers. Keep a digital PDF of the policy on your phone for US hospital admission.
